Robotics is an exciting after school, co-curricular program for our 5th and 6th grade students. The primary focus is to build a functioning robot out of Lego pieces that can be computer programmed to maneuver across a playing field while performing multiple missions. Each year, a specific theme is generated by the F.I.R.S.T. Lego League. Teams have eight weeks to set up their table elements (competition course) and design their robot to successfully maneuver the field within a two and a half minute period of time. At the end of the 8 week program, teams compete their "Bots" against other Robots in an area qualifier meet. If the team is successful at the qualifier meet, they will then get invited to participate in the Central Valley Robotics Competition. Teams compete in three rounds each. Each completed mission awards the team points. The round that scores the team's most points is their competition round.
Through Robotics, students learn programming language, basic physics, and engineering principles, sportsmanship, team cooperation, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
