Early last month we communicated that we would be starting sports this year at Woods Elementary. Over 165 upper grade students have been attending 4 days of activity each week for this first season. It has been very fun and exciting. The first season will conclude on Thursday, March 25th before spring break. We had originally hoped that we would get to have a shortened season of baseball, cross country, and softball. Unfortunately, due to restrictions with bussing and our school schedule, we are not going to be able to travel to play other schools in the BHS Area or across CUSD. All CUSD elementary schools will be offering sports activities until Friday, May 7th where students will engage in activity and competition with and against their school peers. We will start season 2 on Tuesday, April 6th with the following sports schedule.
April 6th – April 16th - Students can choose to join either basketball, cross country or play flag football. Students will stay with the one sport for the two-week period where they will play on a team with their peers and compete against other teams from Woods.
April 19th – April 30th - Students can choose to join either cross country, volleyball or play wiffleball (baseball /softball). Students will stay with the one sport for the two-week period where they will play on a team with their peers and compete against other teams from Woods.
May 3rd – May 7th - Students can choose to join track. Students will participate in running activities and field activities like high jump, shot put, and long jump.
We encourage every student to sign up for a mini season and participate in activity with their peers. Students can attend each week or skip a mini season if they don’t find a sport they would like to participate in. The Season 2 Sport Sign Up Form was given to students currently participating in Season 1. Any 4th, 5th, 6th grade student interested in participating in Season 2 that did not already receive a sign up form may pick one up in the front office. We are very excited to continue with outdoor sporting activities for our upper grade students. We hope you will join us.
Please have your child speak with their teacher, Ms. Beato or Mr. Holtermann if they have any questions regarding our 2nd season of sport.
